And the GOP has another Scalp: Susan Rice.

Well congratulations Senator McCain you got your scalp.

About 90 minutes ago the media starting reporting that UN Ambassador Susan Rice sent a letter to

President Obama that said "“If nominated, I am now convinced that the confirmation process would be lengthy, disruptive and costly – to you and to our most pressing national and international priorities, That trade-off is simply not worth it to our country...Therefore, I respectfully request that you no longer consider my candidacy at this time,”

Now what exactly caused Mrs. Rice to think the confirmation process would be lengthy and disruptive?

That would be the republican crusade against her for having the unmitigated gall to go on TV on September 16th and say this about the September 11 attacks in Benghazi:

"It’s hard to know exactly what took place and how long it was planned, and — I don’t have that information. I know very well that there were demonstrations, that there was a group of either al-Qaida or some radical Islamists who — about 15 of them, armed with RPGs and other lethal weapons, that seized this opportunity to attack our consulate. And it was an act of terror. It wasn’t an act of a mob getting out of control. We should understand that. This was a calculated act of terror on the part of a small group of jihadists, not a mob that somehow attacked and sacked our embassy."

No wait I'm sorry I've just been informed those were John McCain's comments from September 15th. Comments claiming "there were demonstrations" and that the demostrations got hijacked by a violent group who "seized this opportunity to attack our consulate"

Anyways now that we got Senator McCain's beliefs out of the way lets go to Mrs. Rice the following day.

"Based on the best information we have to date, what our assessment is as of the present is in fact what began spontaneously in Benghazi as a reaction to what had transpired some hours earlier in Cairo where, of course, as you know, there was a violent protest outside of our embassy — sparked by this hateful video. But soon after that spontaneous protest began outside of our consulate in Benghazi, we believe that it looks like extremist elements, individuals, joined in that — in that effort with heavy weapons of the sort that are, unfortunately, readily now available in Libya post-revolution. And that it spun from there into something much, much more violent."

So there you have it. Those are Ambassador Rice's comments claim  "there was a violent protest outside of our embassy" and that "after that spontaneous protest began outside of our consulate in Benghazi, we believe that it looks like extremist elements, individuals, joined in "

So there you have it. Mrs Rice's unpardonable sin, the one that caused John McCain to lead this attack against her that would basically cause her nomination hearing to be "lengthy, disruptive and costly" was agreeing with John McCain.

I guess in all honestly I shouldnt be surprised. The right wing heritage foundation came up with the individual mandate, that was first presented in congress by Republican Senator Orin Hatch, and enacted into law by Republican Governor turned presidential candidate Mitt Romney.  And of course once their idea was put into law at the national level, they all fought it all the way to the Supreme Court.

The so called "death panels legislation" in Obamacare was written by Republican Representatives Dr. Charles Boustany (LA), Patrick Tiberi (OH), and Geoff Davis (KY) (and one Democrat, Rep. Earl Blumenauer (OR)) and based on legislation previously proposed by Republican Senator Johnny Isakson (GA). And thats the part they seized on to lie and mislead people on the evils of Obamacare.

The Republican Convention this year dedicated a whole day to how President Obama said the government can assist businesses in building their businesses. Oddly enough the nominee of the republican party, Mitt Romney had to edit his own remarks in the attack ad he made after Obama's comments as in the speech Romney made for the ad he agreed with everything Obama said, including the same examples.

And then last week Senator Mitch McConnell had to Filibuster his own bill the same day he proposed it because the Democrats might pass it.

So really I suppose it was inevitable that eventually the GOP would just find a way to accelerate the entire process and attack someone BEFORE anything happened simply for having the gall to agree with them.

The real question is, how much longer will we as a country take them seriously as a party when their one and only belief seems to be opposing whatever was said by the most recent democrat to speak. Even if they used to agree with said Democrat.

Although I suppose on the upside, since according to John McCain saying a mob was present at the embassy attacks makes you wholey unqualified to hold any political office at all, I assume he will resign before the day is up right?
