John McCain has never actually been to the US Senate.

Turns out, John McCain is not having a good week. And its all due to a single senate hearing (I spared you the whole hearing and just put up the relevant 3 minutes).

Now if you saw anything about this story on the news, it was ALL about the mistaken identity. And no doubt bitching out the wrong person, even after reading the name of the person you wanted to bitch out, is pretty embarrassing.....and imagine how much worse it would have been if Gil Kerlikowskie hadnt stepped up in seconds and been like "um that's ME" and let McCain ramble around in confusion for a while.

But it turns out that may not even be the most embarrassing mistake McCain made in those 3 minutes.

Nor was his most embarrassing mistake his selective outrage. McCain doesnt seem to mind that if YOU visited these detention centers YOU couldnt take pictures of ANYTHING. McCain seems to think that having special unwritten rules for him isnt good enough either. McCain apparently wants to the rules changed to spell out in writing that HE is special and gets special perks you dont.

But even with that self centeredness, that was not his most embarrassing mistake.

No, his most embarrassing mistake came when he said this:

"If a member of Congress can’t visit a facility in his own state—The people of Arizona elected me, and I’m not even supposed to carry a cell phone with me?

Mister, you have overstepped your responsibilities and your authority, sir, and I want those instructions revoked as far as members of Congress are concerned, and I want it done today. You understand?”

Now I know most of my readers are going "yea? and wheres the mistake?" And they are right.....on its face nothing McCain said was obviously wrong. That said, I'm about to show you a picture of another facility where members of Congress are prohibited from using cell phones to take pictures:

Ladies and Gentleman, the Chamber of the United States Senate.....a room you would believe Senator McCain is familiar with, given that he's been sighted in the chamber himself once or twice.

See? He's been in the Senate Chamber before.
Now I know what your thinking, "Hey wait a minute, you just told us you cant take pictures inside the Senate Chamber, then you showed two pictures of the inside of the United States Senate"

To which I say False. I showed you 1 picture from inside the United States Senate,  and a screen grab from a CSPAN feed. HA!

No seriously. Your right. But thats the oddest thing. With special permission you CAN get permission to take pictures, and CSPAN does have special permission to live video EVERYTHING.  But regular run of the mill senators (and visitors) still cant take pictures. (note by the way that is EXACTLY the arrangement that drove McCain to such fury in the opening video)
Which is why John McCain's most recent "official" swearing in photo looks like this.

You can look as hard and long as you like, you will not find those columns in the picture of the Senate Chamber, nor will you find the railing in the top left, nor will the walls be the same color.

The reason for that is because THATS NOT THE US SENATE CHAMBER. Hell as a side note, thats not even John McCain's real swearing in, although its exactly what he would show you if you asked to see a picture.

Because McCain's real swearing in took place, along with every other senator, in the actual Senate Chamber.

This is a photo op designed to allow Senators to get personal photos to share with family/friends/supporters ect.  After the real swearing in, Senators go down the hall to the Old Senate Chamber, and get this picture taken with the Vice President, of their "official swearing in" alongside any family they want in the picture.

Now this is not a new thing that maybe John McCain just forgot about, its been in place for a LONG time.

Then-Senator Kerry being "sworn in" by Vice President George H.W. Bush in 1985, 2 years before McCain was elected.

Point is, where is the outrage? Everyday John McCain goes to work in a place that tells him he cant bring his cell phone into the facility. And somehow, in almost 30 years in the Senate, their hasnt been a peep out of him about how he "wants those instructions revoked for members of congress"

Which leads to the inescapable conclusion that either:
1) John McCain has either never actually set foot in the US Senate (and that the picture of him above is actually photoshopped and/or a hologram)

2) John McCain is well aware of the rules of the Senate, and is too stupid to realize its the SAME rule here,

3) John McCain assumes you are too stupid to know what the rules of the senate are, and thinks that he can gin up some fake outrage in his base, even though his entire objection reeks of entitlement and self centeredness.

4) John McCain's sense of personal entitlement has reached astronomical levels

Hint, its number 3. To be fair thought that rule is so obscure, even the media missed in it there rush to mock McCain for getting two names of two people sitting right next to each other confused.

They either missed it, or they dont consider it newsworthy anymore that a US senator feels uber entitled and lies to [badly] gin up political capital.

Your choice.
